How does evolutionary theory connect with quantum mechanics? Feel free to do a google search to buttress your answers here. Clue: Think of Brian Greene meeting Charles Darwin.

Mutation is the key that connects Evolutionary theory and Quantum mechanics. Mutation is a change in sequence in your DNA. Evolutionary theory explains how cells undergo mutations, the advantaged genes always win against the disadvantaged and survive over all. As quantum mechanics is raw material for evolution while natural selection is more of a direction of evolution.

Brian Greene came up with something called the string theory. Scientist hope that string theory will unlock a huge mystery in our universe as to why and how gravity and quantum physics fit together. Charles Darwin believe that species have evolved from natural selection. Green believed that quantum mechanics helped evolution.

How did Socrates die?

Socrates was sentenced to death by drinking poisonous hemlock. His death was caused completely because of a man named Meletus. Meletus accused Socrates of corrupting the youth. Meletus said Socrates was inventing new gods and denying the existence of old gods. And looking back on the tragic event that occurred by Socrates death, there wasn't even enough evidence in court to prove that Socrates corrupted the youth. And now a days we have the freedom of speech and religion, so his death was very unfortunate and in some ways very wrong. It was as if he lived before his time.

Socrates tried to lead people to find their own faith instead of following the faith that was already set in stone. He wasn't respected for this, people were used to only having faith for the gods that were already set in stone, not created. After Meletus had pointed fingers and accused Socrates, he still talked highly of Meletus and said he was a very wise man. Socrates himself was considered the wisest man in Athens, and was highly respected by the people their.Socrates believed his wisdom brought among jealousy, jealous people would feel of him. Meletus seen Socrates as a threat and in my opinion was very jealous of Socrates.I would even think it had alot to do with why Meletus wanted Socrates dead.

Your teacher argues that philosophy done well is science and philosophy done poorly is. . . well, philosophy. What advantage is there with doing a philosophy predicated on science (Edward O. Wilson's Consilience) versus a more traditional route? What are the drawbacks to a purely scientific endeavor in this regard?

The definition of science is basically an individuals that build and organizes knowledge with explanations and predictions about our universe. Science is a method, and scientists go off of observation and experiment. Scientists develope models to explain how the world works. Science goes off of the fundamental laws of physics. And as we know philosophy studies questions that can be answered by obsevation and experiment. It all tells us what is true about our universe, E.O Wilson believed that knowledge has no boundaries and that all knowledge together can explain everything in this world.

E.O Wilson thought the idea that the way everone thinks should be based on physics. The law of physics evolve as we learned in the law of evoltion. He believed their was a way to unite all sciences.  He also had an idea of consiliance, which was that everything is connected together on the deepest level possible. We learned that everything is made up of positive and negativer early on in this class so I believe his idea is correct in every way.

Why is the theory of evolution so important in doing philosophy? More pointedly, why is the theory of evolution key to understanding why human beings behave the way they do? Focus on evolutionary biology and evolutionary psychology when giving your answers. I also suggest being creative here and perhaps using your own life as a template to explain some aspects of evolution.

Evolutionary biology explains why humans change through the generations, physically and mentally. The whole theory of evolution is the reason for change and improvement, in ourselves as people. Our traits and genes adapt due to our environment, survival and diversity. And with all the new traits and genes we evolve into new species over time.

Charles Darwin stated that "In the struggle for survival, the fittest win out at the expense of their rivals because they succeed in adapting themselves best to their environment". We as people have become modernized and adapted well to our environment. In result Evolutionary psychology is the same theory to explain how psychological traits evolve and adapt through time.

We all have many different traits and genes that develop, mainly intelligence, beauty, body structure etc. The theory of evolution is not just in our genes and traits, it bigger then that, it is in our work ethics and morals. Another example is in our values. Now with different cultures and age groups our values, morals and ethics have evolved and changed. They evolve just like our bodies and minds. The more you know about evolution, you know about life and have better ethics, morals and values. to follow.

In the famous Einstein/Bohr debate over the implications of quantum theory, who do you think won? Explain why and be sure to detail your answer with pertinent information related to quantum entanglement, the double-slit light experiment, and other strange factoids within physics. You don't have to side with either one, if you wish, and can present the pros and cons to each.

Albert Einstein and Niels Bohr are two of the founders of quantum mechanics. The main difference between the two is that Einstein was on board with the principle of uncertainty. He believed that the world was run on classical physics laws instead of how god wants it.Einstein even went as far as making a comment that "god does not throw the dice", meaning he doesn't call the shots.

Einstein had many experiments, one was called the double-slit light experiment. This experiment demonstrates that matter and energy can have characteristics of both waves and particles. In this experiment a light source lights up a plate pieced by two parallel slits. The light went through the slits and you can see the results on a screen behind the plate. The results were not what Einstein expected, the light should have consisted strictly of particles. The experiment supported the principle of indeterminacy.

The debuts between the two lasted for the rest of their lives. Most believed Bohr was the ultimate winner by far, I don't think there was a winner between the two because there are too many laws and rules to how nature works and we are yet to figure out all of them.

In the magazine MYSTERIUM TREMENDUM (and in the film feature), it is argued that the reason many individuals have a problem with a purely scientific exploration in philosophy and religion is because of a misunderstanding of the term “matter.” Explain his argument and feel free to either support it with additional material or critique it.

People always seem to have a problem linking philosophy and religion due to a misunderstanding of the term "matter". Some religious people think that the term "matter" contradicts the bible and that in turn insults their religion. Religious people mainly feel that the term "matter", as defined makes them mierly a material. This links to the theory that we are all "beams of light".

Even if we are all made of material or light we are all equal which makes people feel better knowing we all have a sense of equality.

Scientifically "matter" is defined as anything that occupies space and has mass. People consider matter and spirit opposite because not many people fully understand the true meaning of "matter". If we had a true meaning of "matter", a definition that doesn't change and is not out dated, then we would have a better understanding on the actual term.

An example is the film we watched on quantum thinking because it made me think of how we cant even define objects or things because we don't understand what they really are. We just make our own opinion on what these objects are but have no real definition formed.

Myth of Eternal Recurrence

Imagine living the same exact life that you are living now over and over and over, doing the same things over and over. Saying the same things over and over. And the worst part about it is making the same bad decisions and judgements over and over again! I couldnt imagine living the same life over and knowingly making the same bad decisions over again, thats like pressing the rewind button and not being able to change the past if you were allow to live it over. There are many things in my past that I would change to improve the life path which I am traveling.

Not only living the same life over once but numerous times would be dreading.Nothing new, just the same old stuff. Waking up at the same times, not learning behond what you know now, thats a cranial limit right there!! hehe. I myself would not be happy with living the life I have lived thus far over and over again, I want to improve my life and I think everyone else would want to do the same. Its like knowing your future but not being able to change the wrongs, just accepting them.

Existentialism

To me this means that basically we are alone to make moral decisions and judgements. That we accept full responsibility for your actions. And with those decisions and judgements we determine our course for our own life. I completely believe this is true, only we suffer for making bad decisions in life. We have prisons to prove that our bad decisions have serious concequences. It made me think about how when I was growing up I had a really good friend named Jesabel, our lives took us 2 completely different paths and thats because of all the decisions we made thus far. I would say at this time we are both doing rather good in life but we took two seperate paths to get there and bad decisions held us back at different times while good decisions progressed on our life paths.

Existance basically means how we as people interact with the world. Not only interact but we as individuals are completely responsible for the direction our life takes. Like the example I gave with a childhood friend, she bought her first home and has a degree with steady income and my bad dicision making led me to fall behind and achive my degree later down the road. The important thing for me is that I am making better decisions and am completely responsible for the direction my life is goin in.

The Limits of science

The cranial limit was one thing that I was interested in, there is actualy no cranial limit but it makes me think if there was one would we be able to pass that limit. We have so many limits, like the limit of light that einstein explains about how we can only see so far with our telescopes. We have many limits in science but they say that the limits of our scull are the limits of our understanding, what if we had no limit to understanding? what if we had no limits to memory? I know forsure their are limits to these things because I myself can not remember what I did before a certain age and my understanding at younger ages was very limited too. I honestly believe that it is time that expands your understanding, time that expands our cranial limits. We have made so many new discoveries with time and we will make so many more new discoveries in time. I believe there is no cranial limit, or the case could be that we make our own cranial limits by our understanding. These limits will be incresed in time, just like many years ago when we had no information on planets and the moon, look at us now, we have landed on the moon itself. The limits of science are just what we know now, but people 100 years from now will know so much more and have a far greater limit.

FAQIR CHAND

Chand was fighting in the war in Hamadan when he experienced a religious vision. A holy man appeared as a form infront of Faqir and gave him advice by telling him not to waste the ammunition that was grately needed. He in turn was worshiped himself by the people when he returned to Baghdad. I have never experienced seeing a vision or having known someone who experienced this but I find it to be very interesting. I wouldnt even fathom a vision of someone coming to give me advice and lead me in a certain direction, or if I would even use the advice given after recieving such a vision. I remember hearing in the video that at the very end he did not recal the event that happened and didnt understand why the people of Baghdad were worshiping him in any way. And honestly I dont know that if I were given advice to this extreme I would follow it because therr were alot of soldiers lives on the line and if the advice I was given or the vision I seen was just a mere halucination and ended up being tragic advice it would fall back on me. It is hard to believe that such a vision was seen by Chand until you realize how many lives he saved that very day. If the ammunition ran out they would have little chance to survive. And the holy mans advice was given for that very purpose, so Chand can save lives by being a messanger of some sort. It was a very interesting story.

QUANTUM THEORY

From the reading I learned that Albert Einstein believed the following about quantum theory. It was an intermediate theory, it was incomplete and it contained "spooky actions at a distance". Albert Einstein released groundbreaking papers on quantum theory back in 1905. The definition for quantum theory is "A theory of matter and energy based on the concept of quanta. Quanta is a mathematical equation involving a figure to represent individual units of energy. There was a site I found on Quantum Theory that was very informal and helpful which I will post http://searchcio-midmarket.techtarget.com/definition/quantum-theory and another site that was an actual definition that was very thorough was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_mechanics.
